Of Fluency in English- The Why and How!!

Of Fluency in English- The Why and How!! Home career Of Fluency in English- The Why and How!!careerOf Fluency in English- The Why and How!!By Ankita Bachhawat - October 13, 201620072Facebook The first important issue that one needs to understand is the importance of being fluent in speaking English. One may ask what is this fuss about English and why is our country so obsessed with it? Why cannot we promote Hindi which is the national language of our country? The British have gone leaving their culture behind. Are we still colonized? Is the slavery continuing in this form? My answer to this is:English is not just the language of the British anymore. English is a universal language and one of the prominent languages of our nation as well. It is the only language that connects the entire world in one string. It is the only language that makes international communication possible. On colonization and slavery- these are two very broad terms covering many aspects and perspectives so I would refuse to dig deep but no we are not colonized if just English language is taken into consideration.Victimisation Contents hide 1 Victimisation 2 Is our education system responsible? 3 Some easy tips to enhance your efficiency in speaking English 4 Talk to others 5 Talk to yourself 6 Download dictionary 7 Watch English films and TV series with English subtitles 8 Read newspaper The ones who are unable to speak fluent English are victims of condescending eyes.  It has also been observed that these days English is considered as the parameter of measuring intelligence. This kind of attitude is absolutely unacceptable. If one can speak good English, he is worthy of a job. If one cannot, then he stands nowhere in the competition. The first impression in an interview is created by one’s fluency in the language. Inability gives him the ticket to rejection no matter how worthy he is. The scenario does not limit itself to career lines. It has started infiltrating one’s personal life as well. Interactions in colleges, universities, social media, with friends and acquaintances become fruitful and healthy only if one is confident about one’s communication skills. It is not possible to change this status-quo to be practical, but it is possible to fight it. Is our education system responsible? You may wonder why is it that so many English-medium schools across the country have a majority of their children who have somehow learnt to write in English but are unable to speak fluently? Where else will they learn the language if not in schools? The truth is- if your child is unable to communicate well, it is not the school’s fault. Of the many rules and regulations the schools impose, one is to speak in English in the school premises. But it is practically impossible to monitor each student every moment. The students manage to talk in the language with their teachers, but the conversation with them is very limited. Unless they speak in English with their friends, they will never be fluent in the language. But again, in most cases it is not possible practically. Friends speak with each other in a language they are comfortable with. Moreover, in their age nobody can think about the future consequences. No matter what language it is, reading and writing can only make you learn to read and write. Mastery over a language, be it any, can only be gained if it is spoken on a regular basis. Some easy tips to enhance your efficiency in speaking EnglishTalk to others You must speak in English as much as possible with whomsoever you can, throughout the day. Talk to yourself Now it is quite possible that your family members do not know the language themselves and your friends tease you on encountering this sudden resolution of yours. If you have no one with whom you can actually talk, then talk with yourself in English. In fact, you can also think in English. Whenever you are thinking about something- things that you have to do during the day, food that must be prepared, home wo rks to be done, or anything and everything, make sure that every word should come to your mind in English.Download dictionaryIt is not possible to carry the hardcopy of a dictionary all the time. But all of us have cell phones. Download a dictionary app there. Now, there are many dictionaries that not only give you the meaning of the words but you can also hear the pronunciation. Merriam Webster dictionary has updated several features. It has features like ‘word of the day’ where they teach you the meaning of a new word everyday and ‘word games’ where you can play and learn simultaneously. Use Google, to translate words and dictionaries to learn their various synonyms. Watch English films and TV series with English subtitles This is one of the most effective way to enhance efficiency in English. You may think that you have been hearing English all your school life. Your teachers taught you all the subjects in English except vernaculars- 2nd and 3rd languages. Then what diffe rence does it make? Well, it does make a difference. Hearing lectures on the battles fought, or description of a valley in some story, or the economic and social life of a tribe, or about weather changes, has taught you to write about those things. But when you watch a film, you hear how people do they everyday conversation with each other about the basic things in life, what we call ordinary chatting. Hearing them with English subtitles makes each word clear in case you face difficulty understanding their accent. It also teaches you pronunciation and spellings and improves your vocabulary.Read newspaperReading habits should be inculcated from childhood. But if you have not, start now. Books and newspapers are the best means. But if you cannot buy books or do not know which books to buy then read only newspaper. Begin with reading simple news and gradually move to the heavier stuff. It will be immensely helpful. So, these are some simple habits which can be developed by anyone. Not only a student, but people of any age and profession can learn English by these means. So, if you are a housewife and wish to learn English you don’t have to go for spoken English classes, or appoint a guide at home or buy expensive books. Such follow these steps and make a difference. Moreover, it is never too late to learn.

Resume Writing Services Needed for Every Type of Job

Resume Writing Services Needed for Every Type of JobWith the kind of job placement rates that are currently happening, it is definitely not unusual to find many companies requiring resume writing services. The fact that there are numerous different companies offering these services is also not unusual, as these types of services are readily available. The fact of the matter is that we are all working longer hours than ever before, and with the increase in the number of us on our time clocks, we are often rushed with life, thus we tend to forget how to properly prioritize the time we have for ourselves. Thus we might even be taking more vacation days, or extending the time we are in the office, than we used to do. The sad part about this is that when you take time off from work, you will find yourself needing more resume writing services, as there is simply too much that needs doing to keep up with all the company's needs. However, what is a really great thing about the situation we are currently in is that in today's economic climate, there are various companies that have gotten around the increase in rates by cutting costs and focusing on the most important things - and that is the bottom line. As a result, you will find these companies offering lower rates than ever before. It is of course all a matter of preference and perspective. But there is one thing that is true for all companies and that is that they are all in need of effective communication with their clients.By having a good idea about these companies, you can easily choose to use one of the reliable companies. The main benefit is that you can get better communication with these companies, as you are not just getting your resume written for free, but also your resume actually gets read, and even if you decide to go with another company, you can simply ask them to contact you regarding your resume. It is worth noting that most of these companies do not employ these services as simply a means of helping their employees to look their best; instead, they have help desk type options where you can request specific forms of support for your resume. Thus these companies are highly useful to the employees, who can help them with regards to your resume, and they are also very flexible in terms of scheduling your resume by customizing a daily or weekly approach for this task. These services are extremely helpful when it comes to certain kinds of job openings, especially those that might be encountered by you during various situations that might arise. For example, there are various senior executive positions in the company, and these positions may not offer the same level of support for your resume that positions that are higher up on the corporate ladder. Hence the resume writing services that are not based out of the Dallas area can also be used for these types of situations.Furthermore, when it comes to the potentialities of how your resume can help you land a job, it is also vital that y ou understand how important the resume writing services are when it comes to these possible employment situations. This is because it is these professionals that will be able to help you prepare for these situations in a way that they will also assist you in setting the best impression that you can for your interview. Therefore, if you are thinking about hiring a service to help you get the resume you need, make sure that you get these from a company that is close to your city or region and from which you can easily get assistance from an on-site resume writer. It would also be wise to look into the fact that some of these companies that will offer these services are of high quality and can help you find your dream job.

Action Steps To Get Started With Blogging (Part 2) - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Action Steps To Get Started With Blogging (Part 2) - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Last week, I started a list of action steps for jump starting your personal branding when you suddenly need it.   At this point, you should have registered your domain name, set-up a basic blog and most of your time  figuring out exactly what you want. Now that you have the blog set-up, what do you do?   And more importantly, how did you move forward and start actually putting your brand online? Recently I was part of a panel at a career event and when we started talking about this, many people in the audience got deer in the headlights looks.   And thats really understandable.   If youve never blogged before, its hard to know where  to start! Especially  when your future is on the line! Then  its especially intimidating  because you think that each article has to be absolutely, mind-bogglingly good enough to convince your future boss that they must hire you.   Then just like when you design your blog you spend ages worrying over each article.   And in the end, either nothing gets done  or you burn out very quickly. And then your brand is no further along than when you started and now youre stressed! Your start to blogging So, when Im talking to someone who has never blogged before and now needs to, I tell them to start off by doing the following: Engage with your target market Spend a couple hours searching on the internet for blogs that deal with the type of job you want to do. Find the best writers out there and find who they read and recommend.   Find LinkedIn groups in your subject area and join.  Spend some time thinking about what the people who can hire you will be reading and subscribe to those blogs and groups as well. Then, start engaging.    Read the blogs  and forums on LinkedIn and whenever you see  a place where you can contribute, write a comment or  answer a question.   This is great to do for a couple reasons.   First, because recruiters especially spend time looking through Groups on LinkedIn.   If you have a great answer to a question, they might get in contact with you about a position theyre recruiting for!   (Several of the recruiters at the career event I spoke at recently said this was how they operated!) But even if answering questions and writing comments doesnt immediately land you a job, it also engages your brain and challenges you to show off your professional expertise.   And it shouldnt require too much of a time commitment.   Once youve found an interesting place to write a comment, it shouldnt take you more than 30 minutes to write one. Stick to that. Bring your knowledge home to roost The one thing I dont like about commenting on LinkedIn and on blogs written by other people is that youre spending the time writing good material on someone elses online presence. When you write a great comment, youve invested a significant amount of time in sharing your experience and knowledge.   But when its on someone elses blog, the only people who see it will be the ones who are reading that other persons blog not the people who are looking for you online!   LinkedIn Groups are a little better, because theyre more directly linked to your online presence, but (especially if a group is members-only) it might not be easy for someone looking at your online profile to see your comments. Luckily, theres a solution for this that dovetails perfectly with your desire to create a blog that displays your strengths!   When you write a comment on someone elses web space, dont just abandon it.   Copy that comment, go back to your blog and create a post around it. Its very easy to do: Start off your post by writing about how you were reading a blog in your field or participating in a forum and ran across a challenge a lot of people face.   (Make sure you link to the blog or forum.) Then  share how you responded to the situation or question. Then, if you have the time, expand upon the comment you wrote and gave further detail. Finally write a sentence or two to wrap it up and give the post a relevant title. And youve written a blog post that advances your personal brand by displaying your knowledge in your subject area.   Plus, youre demonstrating that youre paying attention to what is going on in the field and engaged in learning. Rinse and repeat Now that youve written one blog post based on  another that youve read, its time to do it again.   And because youre basing your blog posts on  questions/issues posed by others (and  not wracking your brain trying to come up with original subjects), its something that you can do on a consistent basis without burning out. The key is to keep doing it. At least several times a week, engage on other blogs and LinkedIn and bring your best comments back to your blog.   That will get you started.   Try to do that at least 5 times before you start publicizing your blog.   You want people to see that youre committed, not that youre dabbling.   Plus, the only way to really display your knowledge is to get a bunch of it out there.   So force yourself to commit to writing on a regular basis to share how your knowledge relates to the things you come across. The key to consistently putting up new content, by the way, is to not let yourself get too sucked into obsessing over your article.   Youre simply embellishing on comments you wrote elsewhere.   If it takes you more than 45 minutes to write about a comment for your blog, youre taking too long. Finally, tell people about it! Once youve put up a couple articles, start telling people about your blog.  Put it up on LinkedIn. Add it to your email signature and your business card.   And when youre talking with someone in your field about something youve written about recently on your blog, send them a link to that article.Or, if you really want to help your brand, go  home after  conversation with someone in your field and write a post about what you talked about that demonstrates your knowledge.   Then, send a follow-up email to that person the next day saying, After I went home last night, I couldnt stop thinking about [what we talked about].   So  I wrote a post on my blog based off our conversation.   (Networking hint: people cant resist checking out what youve written if its inspired by them!) As you can see, getting started with blogging for your Personal Brand isnt as overwhelming as many people think it is.   No, youre not going to win a prize for original content with this method.   But if youre right in the middle of a stressful transition and you need to back-up your personal brand by demonstrating your knowledge, this is how you get started. In fact, this is how one of the most successful business authors I know got her start.   She started off the easy way  by commenting on what she read  about on  other blogs  because she had absolutely no idea what she was doing but knew she needed  a blog to promote her business.   Doing that led to her finding her own voice as a blogger, and today shes extraordinarily successful.   So this method works! Author: Katie Konrath blogs about creativity, innovation and “ideas so fresh… they should be slapped” at www.getfreshminds.com.   She works for leading innovation company, Ideas To Go.

Skype and telephone interviews University of Manchester Careers Blog

Skype and telephone interviews University of Manchester Careers Blog Frances wasnt sure her Skype interview was going well. Was it something about her posture? This last academic year 2011/12 we have seen a massive increase in the amount of   first interviews being conducted by phone and recently by Skype. Its a quick and effective way for recruiters to have an initial chat to you to see if they want to take your application further. Its cheaper for you no travel costs. This is what you need to know. Telephone interviews: Can be exactly the same as any first interview so prepare accordingly. Some telephone interviews may be a preliminary screening interview and you may be speaking to someone in HR or a recruitment agent who is simply asking you a list of questions and recording your answers. These can feel quite impersonal and a little stilted with long pauses. Dont worry just answer the questions and wait for the next one. Mobile signals are really variable so ensure you have a strong reliable signal where you intend to have your interview. Make sure it is a quiet private space if at all possible. If you have a land line use it! Remember they cant see you so you need to speak clearly, show enthusiasm in your voice and explain long pauses. (e.g. Id just like to take a moment to think about that.) You can have your CV/application and notes to hand to help you remember points you want to raise or examples you want to use. Avoid scripting your responses though, it sounds unnatural and you will get flustered if the interviewer interrupts. Skype: If you are a regular Skype user then this will be natural to you.   It is worth remembering a few pointers though. Think about what is going on behind you a plain wall with no poster is probably best. What about sound levels how sensitive is the microphone on your laptop or webcam? You need to be clearly audible but you dont want to pick up external noise. New to skype? Its basically a video phone, its free, and its easy to set up. If you are using a laptop or ipad  you probably have an internal webcam and microphone. If you are  using an older laptop or desktop pc you may need to get a webcam and a headphone. Download the appropriate Skype tools for your device www.skype.com When you register make sure you use an appropriate user name.   You cannot change your user name once you register it nor can you delete it.   So if you have a private account you do not want to share with a recruiter (bimbo@fluffybunny.) You will need to create a new account with a new email address. Its advisable to make sure you are signed out of Skype if you do not want to be called when you are not expecting it. Make sure you have a strong WiFi connection. Practice Skyping with friends try out some of the features like instant messaging in Skype and sharing documents.   This way you will be prepared for whatever the interviewer does. Remember they can see you so make sure you are dressed for an interview! What will I be asked? Hard to say exactly by I would bet on something around the following: Motivational questions to find out if you REALLY want the job and know what it is all about. Also commercial awareness do you understand the nature of the business / sector? Why did you choose your degree Why do you want to work for fill in company name here? Why are you interested in working in fill in role here? Skills / competancy /strength based questions Check your application form what did they ask you about there? Check the job description or recruiters website what skills are they asking for? Have examples of times when you used those skills fresh in your memory. For more on interview questions and how to answer them check out our website, download the guide and watch the videos. Writing a Tagline For Resume

Writing a Tagline For ResumeIf you've ever tried to write a tagline for resume then you know it can be an intimidating task. A good tagline is really the only thing that can separate you from the hundreds of other applicants vying for the same job.Writing a tagline for resume is easy when you get your creativity out. People will start to notice the name of your business, which will give you some momentum. If you're at a loss for words, there are all kinds of tools that you can use.In some cases, you'll have to start off with a saying that relates to your business. For example, if you're starting a company, and you're looking for a marketing campaign that will make your company stand out, you can use the saying 'one reason to choose us.' It's simple to put together, but it gets the point across well. You don't have to stick with the same saying throughout your whole campaign. Just throw in something different at each stage. It's also a good idea to keep it brief. Nothing should be over six or seven words. That's too long, and people don't have time to read them. You should also try to vary the words that you use to describe your product or service. A simple statement can do it. Something like 'outfit any need' works very well. It says 'any one' and it's not long enough to be boring.Keep it short, because it's best to get your points across without letting people think that you're going on about yourself or your products. You don't want to be boring, so be light and concise. When you're looking for a tagline for resume, be creative. You don't have to copy someone else's slogan or try to write something that will get people to know more about you. Just keep it interesting and original.Be sure to include your name and the company name. If you don't want to put your name, you can put the website address and just say something like 'ask for us.'
